Sensing keeps you in control of what goes on in your body. You cannot work within a body that is constantly on the go. Rushing around for periods on end is counterproductive. How does illness sneak up on some while others seem fine?
There is something to be said for maintaining equilibrium. If you can never stop to hear your beating heart how can you address its needs? How is it that so many of our youth are on high blood pressure pills and other assorted medications without any previous knowledge of how the arrived there? Who did they listen to and would they have chosen otherwise if hindsight was given to them? The fact is that sight was always there. The ability to sense or intuit what your body and surroundings offer and need comes easily to those who attune, listen in silence and act. Old wives tales are full of such wisdom.
The dog needs walking, the phone is ringing off the wall. Pressure points build up. A meeting is missed, vacations are cancelled and another pill engages the body. The only thing that went on a vacation was the belief you can act in accordance with what your body asks for. These are the deterrents that keep us away from sensing. Do not let the motor control of bad habits disengage your ability to intuit. If you need rest, your body will tell you. Act on that need. If you need to open up and let the sunshine naturally into your day take it to heart and get outside. Activating a body comes in many forms for the newborn to the aged. It rests, draws into itself, replenishes, expands and returns to the source.
Your body expels what it doesn’t need. Unfortunately we never ask what our body needs often enough. We work on cravings, meal substitutes, pills and a quandary of other artificial supplements. If it comes from the earth, it draws from a natural energy. If it comes from a conveyor belt it draws out your energy, plain and simple.
Do I want it or do I need it? These are the questions we should be asking whenever we consume. Love is the food we most dearly need. How we generate it is important. Isn’t a hug comfort food? When was the last time you gave one? Wrap your arms around someone today and ask them if they feel better. You may just find that act will in and of itself open the door to sensing what your own body needs, be it energy, nutrition, sleep, or restful periods of relaxation.
If we allow others to make decisions for our body without actively participating in the decisions on how we can or should feel then we enable the back door. “My doctor told me this would work”. There is no right or wrong answer for every situation. What remains constant is our ability to understand when we need to question from within, then move outwards to find a solution that best suits our individual needs. Turning to a pill out of desperation is never a solution to healing. Practitioners are only as good as the information we provide them. They do their level best, but their tools do not often provide a holistic approach to maintaining a healthy body, mind and spirit. Their practice is solely based upon the physical. It all starts with listening and feeling. Get out of the habit of feeding one body and feed your other more advanced sources of energy.
Above all, don’t be dissapointed if you cannot find what ails you. Healing the body from a holistic point of view deosn’t happen overnight, it occurs as we start to listen and sense, one step at a time. For more information on mind/body/spirit, please visit our side menu.
