Manifesto

Lighting a torch to that which gives us purpose.

We give pause, respect and dignity to carry on in a manner that illumines our soul’s purpose and progress.  While others around us seem to move without purpose, especially in the digital world, we ask you to join us and move in the opposite direction.

We move towards that which gives hope.  This is an enduring sense of conviction that what we are sent here to do counts on a daily basis, from moment to moment.  Nothing we do is without purpose.  There is no wrong or right, only paths and choices, all of which are made by the individual, not the organization.  We do not strive to become an organization, or led by any denomination or creed.  Rather, we as backyard mystics move to join in a larger community where others can glean what they need, take it back into their day and in turn, move forward with the notion that they matter.  They count and they can truly make a difference in any station of life, any time, any place and at any age.  That is the choice.  That is the heart and the crux of this web site.

We do not offer advice nor obstruct growth

Rather, we offer opinions and ideas.  A courtesy from those who have already made choices and have recognized the importance of those choices in their lives.  We applaud those who move on.  Those are the voices we wish to hear from.  Those are the ideas that we wish to contain, and eventually wish to embrace in the larger community of many nations.  The local hero is the one who submits to their lot in life with dignity and endurance, not those who travel with impatience and intolerance as their calling card.  We do not wish to merely tolerate, we wish to elevate, to realize that wherever you are, however you find yourself, it is not only acceptable but preferable.  It is preferable, because we all need to start somewhere, and usually like any good architect, we build from below the ground, not at the ground.

Here at the Backyard Mystic, we started with a tiny seed

The seed was planted ten years ago, and it germinated as a thought, often in the background of the author.  He does so for the sole purpose of building a readership and community that needs a venue to respond to the daily aspirations we are all prone to living.  Aspiration and perspiration are almost identical, in many respects.  We sweat out that which our body does not require, and in a spirit, we sweat out the needs of the ego for the needs of our soul, don’t we!

That in truth is the spiritual definition of aspiration, one which sweats out the ego for bringing into being our true nature.  That is the nature, and the purpose of this web site.
